FUTSAL attracted more youth to the court!

Futsal is still an infant here in Tonga, but over the weekend many new faces showed at the futsal court to play in the Men and Women,  U 17 boys and girls competitions.

Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced small sided football game, and the nature of the game places a large emphasis on technical skill and ability in situations of high pressure, and is subsequently an excellent breeding ground for football competencies that can be translated into the 11-a-side format of the game.

Penateti Feke, the Competition Manager explained, she aimed for futsal will have a massive growth in popularity.  And she put futsal before the Major League to enable players to improve.

‘’There are many countries put up their own professional futsal league which players would use to hone their skills before transitioning to the 11 – a – side, ‘’Feke said.

‘’Our previous futsal competitions draw the attention of our regular football clubs, like Veitongo, Lotohaápai, Navutoka, Toa Girls, and Marist. But this year, we have many new teams from new communities like Talafoóu Village, Haákame Village, Fahefa Village, Nukuhetulu Village, Niutoua Village, Tonga College and Tupou College” Feke added.

Futsal competition is scheduled to conclude in the last week of June 2017.
