Veitongo Football Club prepares for OFC Champions League Qualifying Stage

After one day from the TFA Major League 2022 Final, Champion Veitongo FC returned into the training pitch to continue with their preparation for the OFC Champions League Qualifying Stage which is set to take place in Apia Samoa.

As the dates for the competition were announced by OFC on Wednesday 1st of February, Veitongo FC will compete with four other teams in the home ground of the Football Federation Samoa in Apia from 18-24 of this month. The winning team of the competition will then qualify for the Centralised Tournament which dates for it yet to be announced.

Veitongo FC’s head coach, Timote Moleni explains to TFA Website that the all players are back into training after a weekend of celebrating their victory over Navutoka FC in last week’s Final. A travelling squad is set for 18 players who are players available to travel with four officials. “No one was injured from the last week’s final, but some players are unable to travel due to work and personal matters.”

Veitongo FC was set to join the same competition last year, which was held in Auckland, New Zealand after winning the 2021 Major League Final but was unable to due to the volcano eruption and the covid outbreak early 2022. Veitongo FC have the chance again to compete and they are continuing to train at their Club Field in Veitongo.

The four teams competing are:

  • Tupapa Maraereanga (Cook Islands)
  • Ilaoa Ma To’omata (American Samoa)
  • Lupe Ole Soaga (Samoa)
  • Veitongo FC (Tonga)
