Tu’ulalupe and Mataliki misses out on South Pacific Games XVII semi finals

Both Tonga’s National Football teams was knocked-out in pool stages despite Mataliki having a draw with Tahiti in their opening match with Samoa forcing the Women’s team out with a defeat 4-1. Tu’ulalupe lost both their group matches to New Caledonia 7-0 in their opening match and slightly lost their second match 2-1 to the Cook Islands.

Tu’ulalupe will face Tuvalu 3:00pm TOT today in the 9th-12th Play-Off where winner will play against the winner from American Samoa and Northern Marianas game today. 

Mataliki will continue on to the 5th-8th Play-Off where they will face the hosting team, Solomon Islands 9:00pm TOT tomorrow. Winning team will have the chance to finish on the 5th place playing against the winner from Tahiti and Vanuatu earlier tomorrow night.

Men’s Semi-Finals sees host, taking on Fiji in the first semi-final after both teams respectively came out winners of their groups. Seven-time gold medallist New Caledonia will face Vanuatu on the second semi-finals both games to be played tonight.

On the Women’s semi-finals, current gold medalist, Papua New Guinea will face Samoa in the first semi-final before Fiji fights to make their first ever South Pacific Games final against two times silver medalist, New Caledonia tonight.
