The Tonga U15 Development Men’s Team are in high spirits and top form as they gear up for their opening match in the second edition of the UEFA-funded OFC U15 Boys Development Tournament.
The young squad, led by head coach Hemaloto Polovili, departed Tonga on Saturday and have since settled into their base at St. Kentigern College in Pakuranga, Auckland.
Following months of intensive training and preparation, the 18 man squad arrived in New Zealand ready and determined. On Monday, the team was welcomed with a traditional Powhiri ceremony at the OFC Home of Football in Auckland, marking the beginning of what promises to be an exciting and developmental journey for the young Tu’ulalupe hopefuls.

Coach Hemaloto Polovili expressed confidence in his players ahead of their opening game on Thursday against Samoa. “The boys are ready for their first match tomorrow. We’ve been preparing well over the past few months, and I’m confident in the team’s fitness, skills, and understanding of our game plan,” he said.
Tonga will face Samoa in their first match on Thursday, followed by a clash with Tahiti on Saturday. The team will then progress to the play-off rounds next week, depending on their group results.

This UEFA-funded initiative is focused on development and providing valuable international exposure for Oceania’s young talents. For Tonga, this is not just an opportunity to compete, but a crucial step in building a strong foundation for future national teams.
