Tonga Football Association’s referee department congratulated our very own, Lata Kaumatule and also our newly recruit Feliuaki Felila Kolotau as they depart the Fua’amotu Airport to be part of the match officials in Fiji during the OFC Women’s National Cup.
This privilege is not new for Mrs. Lata Kaumatule who has been an official at International competition atmosphere officiating in 3 FIFA Women’s World Cup. As for Ms. Kolotau, this will be her first opportunity to be an official in international level as she has been selected by OFC for this qualifying competition.
Ms. Kolotau is a Form 4 high school student at Tailulu College and has been playing football in the school football competition until she decided to participate in Training as a Referee. It will be a new milestone for Tonga Football Association’s refereeing department if Ms. Kolotau will be lucky enough to be appointed by the OFC referee instructors to officiate her first international game, she will become one of the women to officiate at this level at a very young age.
Tonga Football Association’s Head of Referee departments, Mr. Tevita Vea said that the two ladies were both choses by the OFC. “This is the reason why we always train and prepare our local referees so they can officiate in the international level. This will definitely improve their performance and most certainly contribute to improve source of living and that is why we continuously make sure that our referees are always well prepared for a ‘call up’ ”, Mr. Vea added.
OFC Women’s Nation Cup kicked off on the 13th of July; thus recalling in the History of TFA and after few years for Tonga Football Association Women’s referees to have women match officials officiating OFC matches. Mr. Tevita Vea and the TFA’s referee department are excited and are confident that Ms Kaumatule and Ms Koloatu would do their best on this platform; OFC Women’s National Cup to represent well our Kingdom of Tonga.
