Tonga Football Association’s Coach Education Centre along with it’s Technical Director has launched it’s latest local Coach Educator course on Thursday 8th of September with an aim to develop coach educator competences by providing experiences while preparing coaches to be better adapted to new challenges and also to develop participants ability to plan, prepare, conduct and evaluate appropriate coaching course underpinned by an understanding of the game (basic and general principles).
10 participants were present at the course along with the assistance of an coach educator expert James Selby who emphasized that coaching players is different from coaching coaches and from coaching educators. Mr. Selby also explained how running coaching courses at grassroot level is different than running coaching courses at youth level, it’s different than running courses at senior level and also different running coaching courses at professional level. “Better players had better coaches and better coaches had better coach educators”.

The course was conducted for two days where theory part of the course was presented by the Technical Director and OFC Coach Educator, Kilifi Uele on the first day. On the second day, three participants, Soane Faupula (GK Development Officer), Manu Tu’alau (Just Play Development Officer) and also Lupe Likiliki (Women/Futsal Development Officer) presented their theory part of the course and with Soane Faupula presenting his practical part of the training which will be later on assessed by the OFC coach education department.
Also attended at the course was Mr. Heimuli Pangai a representative from the Ministry of Education who just signed an MOU with the Tonga Football Association to work collaboratively in promoting students interests in soccer and fitness.

“Coach Educators has a huge impact on coaches and players development hence the reason why they should always create a positive environment for other coach educators to learn”, explains Mr. Kilifi Uele in the closing remarks of the course.
