Secondary School Football Competition has wrapped up today with prize giving ceremony for victors and winners of each divisions as well as individual prizes for outstanding players throughout the competition.
This year’s competition was kicked-off on the 17th of June with 13 Secondary Schools competing in three different divisions for 8 weeks which included Under 14, Under 17 and Under 20 for both boys and girls.

Prizes was presented by the events guest of honour, Mr. Folau Fifita Principal of Mo’unga ‘Olive College to winners, first runner-ups, second runner-ups and third runner-ups of every division and special prizes awarded for Golden Ball and Best GK player in each division.
Mr. Folau Fifita was given the privilege of delivering a word of encouragement where he highlighted a very important message to young players especially students.
“Students, today we are not here to celebrate the victory of one team but the victory of us all completing 2023’s season where we worked together on making it happen. Congratulations to the team that won the divisions we all know sports team in a school is always not easy to handle, not only the players will have to sacrifice their study times for trainings but teachers too must put a lot of effort into dividing their times for each program so all can be completed”.

As explained by Tonga Football Association’s CEO, Lui ‘Aho at the end of the ceremony, this year’s Secondary School Competition was a little bit shorter compared to previous years’ competition due to number of participated schools however this year’s competition highlight was Mo’unga ‘Olive College’s victory 3-0 over Tupou College in the Secondary Schools Under 20 Boys Final putting their name in the record book as one of few school to newly enter the competition and become Champion in their debut year.
“You all have shown us a very entertaining talent this year and this is the reason we create opportunities such as new FIFA Talent Development Project is for players like all of you to be able to improve your talents and become world class players one day”.
