Reigning Champion goes down in early defeat to Navutoka FC in first round of Premiers Men TFA Major League 2023

First time for Veitongo to lose a game since 2018’s lost to Lotoha’apai in the TFA Major League Final

For the first time after four years, 3 times back to back champion Veitongo FC’s Men Premier’s Team were defeated after going down 3–2 to Navutoka FC in the opening round of the TFA Major League 2023 Premier Division on Saturday 5 of August.

Veitongo has a record of just winning their opening game in the TFA Major League but this year was different. Hemaloto Polovili scored in the 12th minute of the game to take an early lead after Veitongo’s Forward, Christopher Kefu stike again in the 27th minute taking Veitongo to the break with a lead 2-0.

Navutoka FC did their homework during the break as they came in to the second half with Forward, Nuku ‘Esau striking two consecutive goals in the early minutes of the second half to draw the game 2-2 in the 49th minutes. Not long before former Popua FC’s Striker Timote Maamaloa scored again in the 54th minutes to take the lead 3-2. Navutoka controlled the rest of the game but could not make it again past Veitongo’s GK, Semisi ‘Otukolo to end the game with a Victory, 3-2.

Veitongo FC’s Striker and Captain, Hemaloto Polovili told TFA Website, this lost has awakened the club to know other club’s are improving and this lost has left them with something to learn for the next game against Folaha FC this Saturday.

Veitongo’s last lost was to Lotoha’apai in the 2018 TFA Major League Final. However this is the first time Navutoka FC has ever beaten Veitongo and surely will be something to keep in their clubs record.

End.
