Nukuhetulu FC have etched their name into history after a dramatic 2–1 victory over Longolongo FC in the Heilala Manongi Cup 2024/25 final, securing their place in the OFC Women’s Champions League 2026.
The much-anticipated final lived up to expectations as both teams came out firing, battling fiercely for the coveted trophy. Longolongo, unbeaten throughout the group stage, looked to continue their dominant run, while Nukuhetulu who had to fight their way back into contention after an opening loss to Longolongo were determined to finish their campaign on a high.
The first half was tight and tense, with both sides defending resolutely and creating few clear chances. Just when it seemed the match would remain goalless heading into the break, Nukuhetulu’s star striker Sophiana Moala broke the deadlock in stoppage time, giving her side a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Nukuhetulu started the second half with control, pressing high and dictating the tempo. But Longolongo fought their way back, and just 11 minutes after the restart, they found their equalizer. A powerful free kick from just outside the box spilled from Nukuhetulu’s goalkeeper, falling kindly to defender ‘Anau Lopeti, who calmly slotted home to make it 1–1.

The equalizer only sparked Nukuhetulu’s response. Within minutes, Moala and Tema Tonga combined to threaten the Longolongo defence once again. Their pressure paid off when a misjudged clearance from the Longolongo goalkeeper deflected into Tema Tonga’s path, she reacted quickest, heading home to restore Nukuhetulu’s lead at 2–1.
From there, Nukuhetulu held firm, with their defence and goalkeeper Rhonda Fotu ensuring Longolongo could not find a way back before the final whistle confirmed their championship glory.
Nukuhetulu’s triumph is even sweeter given their journey to the final. After losing 2–0 to Longolongo in their opening match, they bounced back strongly with wins over Veitongo FC and Ha’alaufuli FC, clinching second place in the table to qualify for the decisive clash. Longolongo, by contrast, won all of their round matches before falling just short when it mattered most.
Double Qualification for OFC Champions League
This victory marks another milestone for Nukuhetulu FC. With their women’s team now qualified for the OFC Women’s Champions League 2026, and their men’s side already confirmed for the men’s edition, the club proudly celebrates having both squads set to represent Tonga on the Oceania stage.
Veitongo FC Seal Third Place in Style
Earlier in the day, Veitongo FC claimed third place in emphatic fashion with a resounding 12–0 win over Ha’alaufuli FC.

Veteran striker ‘Ana Polovili led the charge with four goals, while Vika Mafi, Leeann Taufa‘ao, and Polini Ta‘ofi all netted twice. Ann Loti and Felila Tone added one each, completing a dominant performance from Veitongo.
Polovili’s haul not only secured victory but also earned her the Golden Boot award, finishing the tournament with seven goals.
