I observed children in Tongatapu displaying their football skills, which caught my attention. When moved here, I thought, why not introduce this football throught Just Play to Niuafo’ou?” he said.

With this program, Ioane made sure to provide clear explanations of each session and its theme to ensure that children fully understand the program.
Consistent assistance from the OFC Grassroot Just Play Program – Tonga Football Association, Lafaele Moala despite of communication challenges have motivated Ioane with his role in the island where equipment has been shipped so as Guidebook to assists.
“Parents initially lacked understanding of the program, but upon engaging in discussions with their children and observing the program after school, they got interest. Parents were motivated to support their children attending school and being part of the program,” Ioane explained.
Similar to other remote islands in Tonga, delivering this program weekly in the island was easier due to the limited sports in the island.
“Football was an exciting new experience for the children, sparking unparalleled levels of enthusiasm and joy. Teachers were thoroughly enjoying themselves alongside the children. Trying something new is all about embracing the experience and enjoying the activities.

“We would take the time to carefully explain the themes to the children, allowing them to understand, before moving on with our activities,” he added.
‘Alele’uta Government Primary School Principal, Susitina Peei shared her thoughts on the program’s impact at their school. Despite its newness, football quickly captivated children, transitioning their interest from tag and netball to a deep love for the sport.
