Implementing COMET

Penateti Feke presenting Agenda for Day 2

A COMET refresher workshop was held at the Home of Football, Loto-Tonga Soccer Centre on the 24th – 25th June 2020. The workshop was attended by Tonga Football staff and is expected to share best practice in the use of the region’s competition management and player registration system, COMET.

TFA Competition and Club Licensing manager,  Ms. Penateti Feke decided that with all the restrictions in place, now was the perfect opportunity to conduct this COMET refresher workshop. The workshop provided all staff members with an understanding of the importance of the system, how to use and operate the system and how it will be beneficial to TFA in the near future when it is in full operation.

Mr. Lui ‘Aho, TFA General Secretary and CEO delivered an official remarks to mark the beginning of this 2 day workshop.

In his speech, ‘Aho highlighted, “COMET is coming through in a consistent format, and then of course we can also create accurate statistics on all the players, referees and coaches. The system is great in that it can deal with everybody from a grassroots player through to someone playing in the Champions League.”

He said, “Implementing COMET will professionalise football clubs across Tonga Football and align them more closely with all member associations of the Oceania Football Confederation.”

‘Aho was very pleased with the agenda of this workshop and he urged all the participants, to follow all the instructions and its need to be more productive and constructive.

The training went well and everyone completed their tasks that Feke assigned before the conclusion of the last day.

Feke added “Having invested a lot into the introduction of COMET and that will work for everyone.  I am so glad that most of the staff are familiarized with the COMET and when it comes to train the club administrators, I will have some assistance.”

The system has not only benefited the competition department, but other departments in the TFA as well.

The Head of Referee department, Tevita Vea has used the system while serving as an OFC Referee assessor but he learned more from this training.

“I am very grateful after a very successful two days workshop on the implementation of the new COMET Football Management System for Tonga Football Association.  For me personally, COMET will transform and simplify the way in which Tonga Football Association operations are undertaken.  It will significantly reduce administration workload, time, postage & printing costs for the Major Leagues. I am sure it can be accessed anywhere and at any time. It is a powerful system that can capture and report key playing statistics which can be accessed by referees, players, coaches and the affiliated clubs. COMET also provides all of our stakeholders with relevant and timely information which is vital if we are to deliver a successful implementation of the SYSTEM.”

Vea says, “It is also a challenge for the Tonga FA Refereeing Department to educate our referees to get use to the system BUT we are so sure that we have to overcome this hurdle as we all need to keep up with modern game. I’m sincerely thankful to Ms. Penateti Feke, the TFA CM for the great delivering and implementing of COMET and we are looking forward to working closely to ensure the success of implementing of the new system in TONGA.

Adelaide Tu’ivailala raised how important the COMET to the Media department, they have their own account and whenever they need to, they can access the information required directly rather than having to make requests via email which has saved us both a lot of time.

“I really believe that implementing COMET just makes everybody’s lives so much easier,” she added.  “Women’s Football department will embrace it really well, because we definitely need to re-establish our database”.

Having key performance indicators is very important, and everyone are now seeking to start the process of setting up their databases.

End.
