Heilala Manongi Cup 2021

The Heilala Manongi Cup kicks off this weekend with the eight Districts of Tonga fighting it out to be crowned champions.

In February 2020, FIFA and TFA began to map out how and when to roll out Heilala Manongi project. At early March the launching of the Heilala Manongi kick-started in ‘Eua, Vava’u then in Tongatapu. One week after the launch, Tonga got lockdown with a  lot of restrictions including playing any sport.

In Mid August 2020, the Government of Tonga lifts the restriction and we started to bring back the coaches and stakeholders for another refresher before re-start the Heilala Manongi. This time we decided to reach out to Ha’apai and in the beginning of September 2020, the project rolled out in the 4 islands.

Despite a number of challenges arising, 2020 proved a successful year for the Heilala Manongi project.

To conclude the Heilala Manongi project, a major tournament to run, and to bring two teams from Vava’u, one team from Ha’apai, two teams from ‘Eua and three teams here in Tongatapu, the main island and the host. And now all the teams from the outer islands are safely arrived to the main island and psyched for debut. There will be a opening ceremony before the first game.
