Gender Equality Curriculum launches in Ha’apai

We have officially launch our Gender Equality curriculum with an engaging two-day workshop in Ha’apai.

Twenty passionate participants, including teachers, volunteers, and Ministry of Education officers, came together to champion fairness and equality in schools and on the sports field.

The workshop was design to equip participants with the tools and confidence to deliver the curriculum across six Government Primary Schools and one church school. The goal is to help children understand and embrace the principles of gender equality, both in the classroom and on the field.

Led by Manu Tu’alau, Just Play Instructor, and supported by Program Manager Lafaele Moala, the training focused on two engaging parts: theory and practical sessions.

During the opening remarks, ‘Ifalemi, President of Ha’apai Football, delivered a thrilling message about the importance of laying solid foundations not just in football, but in life.

“I believe this is the important part of football, as it is the beginning. If the foundation is not properly set, things will not go well. Today, this responsibility is yours,” he said.

He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the attendees for making time in their busy schedules.

“I appreciate your commitment. I understand your busy schedules and multiple responsibilities but please include this task for the sake of the children’s talents. One day, they may rise from the seeds you have planted.”

Throughout the workshop, participants explored vital topics including understanding gender and sex, challenging traditional gender roles, building healthy relationships and setting boundaries, delivering inclusive sessions, monitoring and evaluation, Safeguarding and child protection and the coach’s role in promoting gender equality.

Vulasa Hafoka from Panga’i Government Primary School shared her powerful perspective, “This program is truly wonderful. There is no reason to keep dividing genders when it is clear everyone deserves an equal share. Every person has the right to participate anywhere, and anytime.”

Program Manager Lafaele Moala could not hide his excitement sharing, “I am incredibly grateful for the energy and thoughtful contributions from our participants. It is exciting to see teachers identifying areas for improvement and bringing their expertise to the table.”

The Gender Equality program will run for eight weeks in participating schools, and the team is excited to teach, share, and help children grow into confident, and become a respectful individuals.

We acknowledge our generous donors for the ongoing support in making this workshop a success.
