Representatives from governments and non-governments and business communities gathered for discussions explored and debated some of the key priorities for the future development of football here in the Kingdom of Tonga.
Currently there are seven different divisions/departments within the Tonga Football Association and they presented including an engaging programme covering from various departments. (Technical, Referees, Women’s Football, Competitions, Media, Social Responsibilities and Finance).
Tonga Football President, Lord Ve’ehala was very excited for the outcome of this Football Convention.

“By bringing in representatives from the governments, non-government organisations and the business communities, the media and international organisations, we were able to map out some important steps to build a brighter future, and not only for football but also in society.”
“While we are facing this global panademic, Football is slowly to get back on track and that’s why we thought we must host this Football Convention to interact with the rest of Tonga in encouraging healthy lifestyle and to be more pro-active”, says Lord Ve’ehala.
Both days concluded with panel discussion that focused on some incredibly inspiring and emotional stories from different presentations done by all head of departments.
Madam Tupou Pasikala-Fiu, representative from Tonga National Qualifications & Accreditation Board, but former Honorary French Consul to Tonga said, “it has been an eye-opening convention to us all; a time during which we listened to and witnessed the vibrant support from around us. Indeed, little that we know the impact of the vast activities that TFA offers ranging from “Just Play, Live your goal with Women’s Football, Inclusive Training Programs, Coaching and Simply Playing the game and providing good quality fields, well trained coaches and emergent referees across the region… The convention brought out the benefits and impact via the inclusivity/inclusiveness of this sports. TFA provides the conducive fields and environment; sets the stage for the talent to be groomed and forged for the greater benefit of the family, church and the country at large.”

“Tonga Football has always held significant events annually to show case its impact in the nation of Tonga with tournaments and competitions in Vava’u, Ha’apai and ‘Eua recently,” she added.
Lui ‘Aho, the General Secretary/Chief Executive Officer expressed his gratitude and appreciation for a successful convention.

“Throughout those two days, many participants and attendees have been overwhelmed by the energy and enthusiasm shown by everyone in the room. There is a genuine appetite amongst so many to elevate the football to new levels and the Football Convention has provided an important platform to inspire and empower boys and girls around Tonga”, ‘Aho said.
“Topics that were discussed include the challenges, barriers and opportunities for growth and development of the game, as well as how sustainable strategies, programmes and partnerships can contribute to both men and women’s football and a more diverse and inclusive society,” says ‘Aho.
“As the Royal Patron clearly outlined/ stated/ echoed that building up a vibrant and healthy community cannot be achieved by one person but by a joint together supportive effort of a group of people, thank you,” ‘Aho added.
Tonga Football will continue on building vibrant and healthy communities in many ways and to pursue with her overall vision, “To increase the popularity of Football in Tonga.”
