Since the outbreak of COVID_19 pandemic, FIFA has continuously reiterated the need to put health first as well as the well-being of players, officials and everyone who participates in any football activity, must be of primary importance.

Today, Tonga Football hosts an event to distribute all hygiene packages and to invite everyone’s involve to attend. However, Tonga Football invited the Minister for Education and Training, Honorable Hu’akavameiliku to be the guest of honour and to also received 168 hygiene packages to all government primary and secondary schools in Tonga.

Honorable Hu’akavameiliku addressed this special event to extend his gratitude and appreciation to Tonga Football for selecting the schools to be amongst the recipients.
“Lord Ve’ehala, on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Training , representatives from Catholic schools, LDS schools, Lavengamalie schools, SDA schools, I would like to extend to you and FIFA our sincere gratitude and appreciation in providing this support and relief. I am fully aware that FIFA and the World Health Organisation (WHO) are teaming up to tackle Covid-19,” he says.

“Last year, we agreed to run a football tournament to every Primary School in Tonga and it was a very successful tournament. I was there for the final and we all witnessed that.”
“Today, we are gathering here to receive FIFA Covid relief gifts, and I believe it will lead our children in every school to stay clean and to live healthy,” says Hu’akavameiliku.

There were 280 hygiene packages distributed to all the schools including pre-schools, and 25 food packages distributed to hospitals. prisons, safe houses, disabilities center and inclusive schools.

The referees, coaches and volunteers received cheques for their income loss.

Lord Ve’ehala expressed his gratitude thanks to Honorable Hu’akavameiliku for accepting the invitation to be the guest of honour for this event.

And he thanked everyone for accepting what FIFA had plan for our stakeholders and to all our wider-football community.
