We have successfully launch our new Gender Equality Curriculum, which took place last week during an engaging two-day event on Vava’u Island.
Our committed Program Manager, Lafaele Moala, along with Instructor Manu Tu’alau, well guided participants through important concepts and practical strategies to promote gender equality in schools.
Fifteen keen schoolteachers from various government primary schools joined us for the training, each eager to learn how to effectively implement the curriculum within their schools. Supporting this creativity, we were fortunate to have five dedicated volunteers who acted as mentors, helping the teachers apply what they learned and encouraging a collaborative and supportive environment.
This event marked an essential step in promoting gender equality in education, empowering teachers with valuable tools to foster inclusive and respectful learning spaces. We were honored to have Salesi Fusikata, the Ministry of Education Sports Officer, as our Guest of Honor. He shared insightful thoughts on the importance of the program, emphasizing how it helps break down stereotypes and biases, allowing boys and girls to participate equally in sports and other activities. He noted, “This initiative is essential for government primary schools, as it enables children to develop important life skills teamwork, communication, and mutual respect.”
As we equip these dedicated teachers with the skills and knowledge to deliver this program, each participant is demonstrating their understanding by showcasing what they have learned and outlining their plans to implement their new skills over the next four weeks.
Program Manager Lafaele expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the teachers and volunteers who devoted their time to this impactful two-day training.
“I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to our participants over these two days. Their involvement has been crucial to our success. It is truly thrilling to see teachers eager to apply their skills and knowledge as they embark on implementing our program. Their confidence in teaching will not only enhance our delivery but will also ensure that the children receive a clear and engaging understanding of what is gender equality,” Moala shared.
Vava’u will continue within eight weeks to 20 Government primary school and we eagerly hope the positive changes this curriculum will bring as it rolls out across all government primary schools, helping to pave the way for a rightful future for our students.
