Apifo’ou Go Back-to-Back in U-19 Boys Division

‘Apifo’ou College have successfully defended their crown in the U-19 Boys Division of the Tonga Secondary School Football Competition, edging out Takuilau College 2-1 in a tense and thrilling final.

The boys in blue made the perfect start when striker Puluno Kafoa converted a penalty early in the first half, giving ‘Apifo’ou a 1-0 lead heading into the break.

Takuilau, however, came out firing in the second half and were rewarded with an early equaliser to make it 1-1, setting the stage for a nail-biting finish.

With the game finely poised, it was captain Visesio Tolu who rose to the occasion—literally—towering above the defence to head home the match-winner from a corner. His decisive goal sealed the 2-1 victory and ensured ‘Apifo’ou lifted the trophy for the second year running.

Last year, ‘Apifo’ou claimed the title after defeating ‘Atele College in the final. This year’s road to glory saw them beat Liahona High School 1-0 in the semi-finals, while Takuilau booked their spot by overcoming ‘Atele 3-1.

Fittingly, captain and match-winner Visesio Tolu was named Player of the Match for his commanding performance, capping off a memorable day for the champions.

End.
