A FIFA-MA Referees Course is currently underway in Tongatapu running for 5 days from 15th to 19th of August. Course was officially opened this morning by Tonga Football Association’s General Secretary, Mr. Lui ‘Aho with 21 Referees and 9 Referee Instructors from Tongatapu, Vava’u and ‘Eua present to participate in the 5 days Course.

“Excellence is not a static point or something to reach for, step by step because when you reach that level there is always something to fix or improve, therefore striving for excellence has to start from change, how we work, how we do things and in doing that we can achieve what we aim for including our training this week” TFA General Secretary, Mr Lui ‘Aho to participants of the Course.
FIFA Referees Instructor and TFA Head of Referees Department, Tevita Vea along with TFA Instructors and Fitness Instructors will be in charge of the Course with zoom session with New Zealand Based, FIFA Instructor, Alejo Laguizamon of Argentina scheduled for second day of the course.

“There are many levels of Referees Course including local courses for outer islands, Schools and such and from these courses we pick few referees to participate in this FIFA-MA Course which is the highest level of Referees Courses in every MA and it is conducted once every year.”
“This is a course for 11 aside Football and the main objective of this course is to sharpen the skills of the football referees, technically and physically and will highlight major changes in the law of the game. The course is not only for Referees but we have included 9 Instructors from all Tongatapu, ‘Eua and Vava’u so they can share experience together with young referees.” Tevita Vea to TFA Website.

First phase of the course will focus on the technical area of the referees will be conducted by the Tevita Vea theoretical sessions and practical sessions will be demonstrated later on. Fitness Session will be conducted by Fitness Instructor, Siuta Tavake on the second day of the course. Course will progress until Saturday 19th of August.
