Veitongo wins Tongatapu Women’s League Cup for 2016

Veitongo Women’s team have defended the Women’s League Cup for the second time by defeating Navutoka Women’s Senior in a very entertaining match here at the Loto-Tonga Soccer Centre.

Veitongo is the current champion since last year while Navutoka taste their first final after many years.

In the semi final on Thursday, Veitongo came out after defeating Fasi Moe Afi, and Navutoka won over the last minute with Toa Girls.

Veitongo team head coach Emelita Moala said this year final is so special as they are looking forward to play the two top team from Vavaú Lahi. ”I have pulled all our experienced players,
like Sela Vaénuku, Átelaite Manu, Salote Laautaha and Lisi Papani as we will prepare to play the two top team from the Northern region in one week time.”

Moeaki says, ”I trust my girls, and whatever result they will give me after this game, I will take it beautifully.”

The final game today was one of the most entertaining game in this season and both team did their utmost best inside the field. In the first half, they both had hard fought
and after the 30 minutes then Lisi Papani óf Veitongo make a very good run and she end up put the ball to the Navutoka’s net. That gave the Veitongo girls more energy to
continue on even the sun decided to shine. In the second half of this game, the Navutoka girls started to play individually while the Veitongo girls carry on giving them pressure, and finally Sela Vaénuku stole the ball from one of Navutoka’s defender, Pou Nave and she put it back to the net, and they shield today’s final game with 2 – 0.

”I am so happy to see my girls managed to play with Veitongo, as they have many older and experienced players. Another point, they played according to my game plan”, says Rosevati Muavesi, head coach for Navutoka.

Both Veitongo and Navutoka will continue on preparing to play two top teams from Vavaú in two weeks time. This is to conclude the Women’s League which is part of the FIFA Women’s development program for 2016.
