FOR TONGA AND ESPECIALLY THE ISLAND OF HA’APAI, TAUTAHI BEACH SOCCER TEAM STILL REMAIN THEIR HEROES.
While the game against Tahiti was on, the Governor and the people of the Ha’apai Island gathered together and they were excited watching the game live. It was sad to watch their Heroes struggling against the might of one of the talented and very experience team, however they were not discouraged. They cheers their Heroes as if they were there in the arena to cheer them and were proud that they do their very best. They watch with interest until full time because their Heroes had struck home their first game goal against the two times FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup finalist.
On visiting the Governor of Ha’apai, Reverend Dr Mohenoa Puloka, he named the Beach Soccer Team the TAUTAHI. TAUTAHI refers to the Sea Voyage of Taufa’ahau with his Warriors in their Kalias visiting the different islands of Tonga and uniting them under his leadership. At that time Taufa’ahau was King of the Ha’apai Group. In 1845 Taufa’ahau was crowned King George Tupou I, King of Tonga.
It is befitting to name the Beach Soccer Team the TAUTAHI for the task coming into the OFC Beach Soccer National Cup was great and a dream come true for the Team. TAUTAHI Team had travel over a visa ocean distance to play against the best and experience beach soccer teams in Oceania. With next to none international experience still the TAUTAHI was eager to get on with the game. Their first game had been a huge challenge against the best favourable team of the competition. Unfortunately TAUTAHI was crushed by the mighty skill, talented and very experience of the Tahiti team. Though their pride may have been affected by the great lost to Tahiti, their heroism and enthusiasm as TAUTAHI remain the same. Thus, it is very interesting to watch how the Team progress henceforth in their remaining matches of the competition.
“Do not be discouraged, our HEROES. You do us proud. Be brave, you are in our prayers. May God give you strength and wisdom that your remaining games will be a great experience for each and everyone of you. All we want, for you to do, is your very best. God will do the rest,” the message of encouragement from the Governor of Ha’apai Islands, the parents, families, friends, supporters, TFA and from Tonga and Ha’apai Islands.
