FIEFIA Tournament kick-off in style

Parents, fans and supporters were also vocal in cheering their children enjoying another amazing day and the sounds of cheers and laughter but more importantly the expression on the children’s faces make the competition live up to its name – FIEFIA or HAPPY.
FIEFIA Tournament is a newly established 5-aside competition for U12, U10 and U8 Just Play schools and community teams who have participated in the popular AusAID/Uefa funded kids program throughout the year.
Just Play project manager Pau Likiliki declared the opening of the games and highlights what lies ahead.
“Today marks the beginning of our monthly Just Play competition which is not compulsory for every team but it’s the build up to our Just Play Day on the 24th of November which is also our monthly tournament grand final day.”
Teams played in knockout stages with the best two finishers to play in the final.
Fasi-moe-Afi took a clean cut after defeating all their opponents in one round to crowned the U8 champion of week 1.
The U10 Division saw 14 teams and heavyweight Lapaha went through to win all games and survived a tight battle with Fasi-moe-Afi in the final but unfortunately the team from Tonga’s ancient capital got disqualified for fielding over age players.
Vaini took the U12 honours after displaying skills and good combination to put away any dash of hope for the much younger but talented Navutoka team.
The celebration came to close with an awarding ceremony where divisional winners were awarded with trophies and prices for their efforts.
The U12 Golden Cup was given to Vaini, meanwhile Fasi-moe-Afi won both the U10 Soka trophy and the U8 Silver Cup.
That ends the first round of the “FIEFIA Tournament” and the second leg will be on September 29.
FIEFIA Tournament is another indicator telling the story of “Just Play” being the best, most popular, entertaining and exciting kids fun program in the Kingdom.
