2012 Major league to kick-off in September.

The date was set following a one day seminar held at the Home of Football, at Lototonga Soka Center last Thursday, where club representatives took advantages on voicing their opinion and ideas on this year’s tournament.
According to TFA’s competition manager, Penateti Feke, the 2012 Major League will be similar to the past years where teams will compete in 3 divisions for men and 1 for women.
“The clubs agreed to remain with last year’s format where the Men’s Premier Division to play a round robin format while Men’s Division 1, Women’s Major League and the Men’s Under 14 will be playing pool games with the top teams proceed to the finals.” she said.
Feke also said that all the clubs are given time to submit their registration which will be closed by August 13.
Meanwhile, the 2012 club championship will feature three new clubs.
Technical Director Kilifi Uele made the announcement saying the feat marks a milestone for Football’s biggest competition in Tonga.
“The newly established Football Club of Vaini, Halatahi and Fasi-moe-Afi were all been approved to join this year.”
“Their presence brings the number of active football club in Tonga to 20 which is record and a hike from 16 last year.”
Lotoha’apai United FC was crowned Premier Division champion last year while Veitongo FC won the Men’s 1st Division and the Women’s League, and they are all set to defend their title this year.
