MAKASINI bound for FIFA Club World Cup

Makasini made Tongan history at FIFA’s pinnacle event in South Africa in June along side referee, Michael Hester (NZ) and assistant referee, Jan-Hendrik Hintz (NZ), being Oceania Football Confederations first ever trio at FIFA World Cup.
Although Makasini has officiated at the FIFA World Cup, Olympics and U-17 World Cup, it will be his first time at a FIFA Club World Cup. Their appointment now, follows FIFA Referee Committee’s confirmation of six trios and a reserve trio from its six confederations in November as match officials.
“It’s my first time in a FIFA Club World Cup championship and I am very happy with the appointment for this tournament. The experience is there but the only thing that is different is the competition”Makasini said.
Makasini is at a peak condition and will join the kiwis in a theoretical and practical course to standardise refereeing criteria over the weekend.
“I am confident with my trio, the two New Zealanders are fit as well and I am not worried about our fitness test because the main strength of our trio is that our fitness level is very high” Makasini said.
Makasini eventually made it out of the Kingdom early Thursday morning after his flight’s cancellation the day before due to bad weather conditions.
Hester and Hintz and Makasini will join Papua New Guinea side Hekari United, who face hosts Al Wahda in a play-off for the quarter finals on December 8, in representing OFC at the prestigious event.
