Take Futsal to another height

‘’When we plant seeds, then our responsibilities is to make sure it will grow, so this morning Paul Toohey came down to help us in watering those seeds that we plant back in 2014,’’ says Lord Veéhala during his speech to officially open the second futsal course here in Tonga.
The Tonga Football Technical director, Kilifi Uele selected 25 men and women futsal coaches from all over Tongatapu to participate in the second futsal course that kicked off here in Tonga.
Paul Toohey, FIFA Futsal Instructor expressed his excitement to see futsal is growing here in Tonga.
‘’We trying to continue the journey that we began back in 2014, when we had the first futsal course here in Tonga. So since that time, the ball has been roll there were competitions and some regular activities that is great. So what we are hoping to o for this week is to give coaches some bit more knowledge so they can take the game to another level,’’ said Toohey.
‘’What is really encouraging is to see Tonga FA understands the important of Futsal not as just a game in its own right, but it’s a game that can really help the football development. Futsal is a part of the family of the small sided games and as such as a vital tool for the kids especially under 12 to experience Futsal here in Tonga so they can develop the awareness to make a good decision in the game under pressure. Then hopefully later on they can either specialise in Futsal or they can take some of the things they learnt from Futsal and put it in to the 11 a side game that really help to bring Tonga up in the football world,’’ stressed Toohey.
‘’I am really impressed, as we got some coaches that are returning from the course in 2014, and some coaches got a lot of experiences and coaching in football and they also helping other participants. I am also happy because we had nine women participants plus I am fully aware that TFA does have women futsal competition in place.’’ he said.
‘’If Tonga FA start build up from under 15 children at the moment, they can be in the World qualifying in 2020,’’ Toohey said.
Kilifi Uele extended his gratitude to FIFA and OFC for their ongoing support in approving this course to run for Tonga.
This Futsal course will close down on Friday 29th of September with a Futsal festivals for young children.
