Tonga Prepares to Win!

Team Tonga comes well prepared for this championship as their last international appearance in this division was in 2010 during the OFC Women’s U17 Championship in New Zealand.
Their current campaign includes one friendly match in New Zealand over the weekend.
The Tongan squad was called into preparation after the completion of their U 15 friendly tour to New Zealand in September 2015. And in the beginning of December 2015,
they all went into camp at the Tonga Football Academy in Valungofulu, Átele.
Although the trip gave the team much needed exposure, Tonga’s head coach, Kalisitiane Koaneti, says there is still room for improvement ahead of kick-off, “I believe in my team
and recognise we need to make positive progress in order to be a success in this tournament”.
The team gelled well together and Koaneti is grateful for the girls’s commitment, “I am impressed with my team’s effort but we need to take the extra mile in order
to turn our hopes into fruition” he said.
“I have total trust and confident in my team and I know if we play to our full potential we can match the best in the region, “ Koaneti added.
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am hoping we will do our best especially our group matches, in order for Tonga to go up to the final stage.”
“Like ALL coaches, we’re aiming at winning the Cook’s Tournament and hopefully represent the Region in the coming FIFA Women’s U17 Championship later this year,” he said.
The OFC Women’s U17 Championship runs 13 to 23 January in Avarua. Cook Is.
