Tonga team for the OFC U17 Women’s Championship, Cook Island!

Tonga’s U17 women’s team aims to produce better results in the OFC U 17 Women’s Championship schedule to kick off in Cook Islands on January 13 as they held Kurungaituku Toa U-17 to a three all
draw at Ngahue Reserve, in Auckland, New Zealand, in their final warm up match.
Kurungaituku Toa opened the score board three minutes from the start whistle. The visitors took a while to settle in but managed equalise in the twenty first minute of the game when Tongan striker,
Mele Akolo drew the keeper out of the box to find a good finish.
Down 2-1 with less than 10 minutes remain in the first-half, Tonga was awarded a free kick taken by Seini Lutu, shot an impressive banana kick from outside the penalty to find the back of the net,
taking the game to 2-2 at half-time.
Tonga dominated the second half with an additional goal and to the crowd’s delight displayed an array of impressive skills. But the locals would not give the visitors the satisfaction and equalised in the
dying minutes of the match to hold on to a 3-3 draw.
Tonga’s Coach, Kalisitiane Koaneti said there is still room for improvement, “Our performance was not perfect but I am satisfied with the result” he said. “ Right now I have fair idea of our first eleventh for
our first game as this is another reason why we requested for this warm up game.”
After the match today, the team will attend a cultural festival hosted by Maori Football NZ/AFCT at Papakura City Football Club.
On route to Rarotonga, the team Tonga, who have been in camp since the first week of December 2015 will depart Auckland on Monday 11 January.
