Tonga assembles U-17 team

TFA’s priority has always been focused on women’s football but for the first time has taken on the challenge to include Men, which is part of its talented players pathway, as TFA strives to boost the popularity of the game in the kingdom.
A search is on for eligible undiscovered talented Tongans born on or after 1January 1994 to try out this golden opportunity to represent the country in the trials early next week at the home of Football in ‘Atele.
Oceania Football Confederation has confirmed ten pacific teams, Tonga included, contending the OFC qualifier in January next year, for a place at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Mexico schedule to run from June 18 – July 10 2011.
Tonga has been drawn in Group B for the OFC championship and will face Cook Islands, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands and Tahiti while Group A consists of defending champions New Zealand, American Samoa, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu.
Squad training has already kicked off this week under the watchful eye of the technical team headed by Australian Coach, Chris Williams, who has recently joined TFA.
“Players were hand picked from the recent 2010 High School Championship, however, new talents are welcome on board” Coach Williams said.
Interested talents are to contact the Loto Tonga Soak Center in ‘Atele to get enlisted.
